Things are starting to heat up and it’s time to pack away those winter woollies and freshen up your home in time for summer! It might seem like a daunting job, but with our genius tips you can banish those pesky germs in record time.
1. Set small goals
It’s always easier to tackle small tasks, so when you start cleaning just focus on one room at a time. This means that even if you don’t get around to cleaning the whole house in one go, you’ll still get the satisfaction of having a whole room looking sparkling clean.
2. Never run out of cleaner
It might sound like an old wive’s tale, but a bottle of vinegar really can be a cleaning saviour — it has antibacterial properties as well as being incredibly effective at cleaning.
Our top tip: soak paper towels in vinegar, before placing them around your taps for an hour to melt away stubborn lime deposits. You can also use vinegar diluted in water as a great cleaner for your fridge.
3. Ditch paper towels
Not only are paper towels bad for the environment, they’re not as sturdy as cloth. Switch to microfiber cloths, which are effective at cleaning most surfaces (without leaving those dreaded paper bits on everything!) as well as being inexpensive and reusable. Simply put them in the wash and reuse them over and over again.
4. Feel good uncluttering
Most of us are guilty of owning way more clothes than we ever get round to wearing. Make more space in your wardrobe and donate your unwanted items to your local Salvation Army or Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
This also applies to your kitchen cabinets — if you have unopened jars of things that have been sitting there for more than a few months, throw them out or donate them to your local Food Bank, which will distribute them to people in need.
5. Pump up the music
A study published in the Journal of Neuroscience of Behavior and Physiology found that playing music can actually make you clean faster and enjoy it more!
That’s right, not only does music brighten up any dull task, but you’ll be able to sit back and relax on your newly-cleaned couch in less time.
