How to create the perfect gallery wall (Part II)

TO COLOUR OR NOT TO COLOUR- CHOOSING A STYLE AND THEME

When hanging art side by side you want to have some idea of a colour scheme and style before you start. You may discover art that features bright primary colours, giving off a fun, playful and quirky vibe. Maybe the more understated and calming pastel hues are your thing… From photography to paintings to prints, whatever colour scheme and style of art you choose to display is up to you, just have fun with it and keep in mind;

The artworks should compliment and work well with each other and for best results stick to a particular theme or colour scheme.

The artworks should flow well with the colour scheme of the room and its other furnishings or feature objects such as rugs and ornaments.

Most importantly, choose something you love that appeals to you personally and don’t be afraid to experiment.

BONUS TIP
When in doubt, nothing says sophistication and style more than striking, classic monochromatic photographs. Black and white photography will instantly enrich any space with a more formal tone and elegance.

FRAME WORK – PAIRING THE RIGHT FRAME FOR THE ART

When choosing the frames for your newly purchased artworks the choices are endless. To keep it simple, you can’t go wrong if you stick to the classic black or white frame options. Either colour, in any case, works well and can even be mixed together for some standout results. Metallics such as gold or silver are another great option suited for more of a formal decor leaving any space dripping in finesse. More recent interior design trends tend to lean more towards a minimalist, less bulky frame choice, opting to leave more negative white space (mat) featured between the artwork and the frame. Use texture and different coloured frames to add character and mix and match a variety of sizes, materials and placements for some stunning results.
